The Northwest Report 03-18-10
From Panama City to Destin the redfish are schooled up around larger creek mouths. Fish range in size from 22"-30" and can be caught on many different artificial offerings. Spoons were the most effective bait this past weekend with almost every top 5 team in the IFA Destin tournament relying heavily on them. Panama City's East Bay is where a few of the top 5 teams pulled there fish from. Others stayed a little closer to the launch site fishing West Bay and Hogtown Bayou. The shallow water trout bite was tough, but we manage some fish 25"+. Working the deep mouths of creeks with artificials or live shrimp will keep you from getting bored catching rat reds and trout until your tired. The cobia run should be right around the corner. Sticken Pigz is going to try to make it up and film while the Cobia run is in full swing. Catch em up.

The Northwest Report 8-1-09
The summer is in full swing, afternoon thunderstorms hot weather and even hotter fishing. The bite has been very consistent here on the gulf coast.
The King Mackerel have been eating almost everything you can throw at them. Live bait around the passes has been the most rewarding. Live threadfins or cigar minnows with wire leader shows no mercy on these toothy critters.
Tarpon have been moving along the beaches all in the region for a few weeks now. They traditionally eat better toward the eastern end of the Panhandle region, but you can occasionally get one of these monsters to eat if he is in the mood. Live mullet, large pinfish or threadfins, cigar minnows or a blue crab will sometimes do the trick.
The Speckled Trout bite has stayed hot up here this year. With the rain we have been having it will only get better. There are a lot of schoolies on the flats from 14 inches to 16 inches. Move in to deeper water and throw bigger baits to find the bigger fish. Live mullet, Croakers and Pigfish under a popping cork or free lined will help your odds to land a gator trout.
Black snapper (Mangroves) are scattered throughout the region on docks, jetties and shallow wrecks. Fish up to 7-8 lbs have been caught on the wrecks and the average size fish inshore range from 10-15 inches. Theses fish are fun to catch on light tackle and fair very well on the table.
The bays are filled with Spanish mackerel, Blue fish, Ladyfish and hard tails. Slow trolling speck rigs, spoons and jigs will be sure to load the boat and pull some drag.
The redfish are getting educated here lately the resident schools have seen almost every lure made. Scale down your tackle and try throwing live baits to entice the bite. If site fishing is not your thing move to the docks and throw some Gulp or Exude shrimp on 1/4 oz jig heads. Braided line, fluorocarbon leader and don't be afraid to snatch him outta there.
Good luck and better fishing.
